CommunityCohesion

I've occasionally been mildly critical of those in the 'indiginous' community who think of those from the Asian subcontinent and the Carribean as outsiders' who' or their descendants' do not belong here - where infact they were often actively invited to this country to work or perform a military service. However, conversley, I also urge those from these communities to have a look at ancient British culture, attend an appropriate local history lecture, or other such society, or to read online and discover the deep and original connections (particularly in language) between communities. For example the Muslim festival of Eid (ongoing now (12-03-2026) has a meaning of feast or festival, whereas the Celtic/modern Welsh word 'hedyn' means seed, grain or even wheat, and the Old English word 'ead' means wealth. Food and wealth were once one and the same thing - those who had the former were rich; and indeed in some African cultures to be well fed (even fat) was a sign of power and leadership. And this association is not just in actual (old) words but in the places and structures of society and in the people. The capital of Scotland, Edinburgh, may derive its name from this word and the name Edwin (ruler and uniter of Northumbria) is a man with these connotations - so much so that he is often synononymous with Edinburgh. I also urge those from the academic community, whoc often know, research and understand these connections, to make their work more readily available, so that it is not just lost in academic journals, but is helpful.

To clarify - the word Edinburgh may derive from is 'hedyn'.
